Why does he gallop?

Why does he gallop? (2011)
Unison voices with optional descant, and piano
or SATB and piano

Who is the mysterious horseman, galloping by in the night?  Is it a highwayman? Is it a messenger? Is it a doctor? Is it a refugee? This lively setting of words by Robert Louis Stevenson captures the mystery of the galloping stranger with rhythmic drive and easily-learnt vocal parts.
It is available in two versions: one for voices in unison with an optional second part, and one for SATB – both with piano.
(Why Does He Gallop? is the second movement of Pictures of Night,  a suite in five movements for SATB, optional youth choir, and piano.)

(Please note – Alan Bullard also arranged Stanford’s setting of this poem in The Oxford Book of Flexible Choral Songs – this is a completely different song.)
