That Virgin’s Child (1999, revised 2025)
(to text by John Gwyneth) 2-3 minutes
Two versions:
SATB unaccompanied
Solo voice (Soprano or Tenor) with piano
This setting of That Virgin’s Child is an expressive and colourful response to John Gwyneth’s mystical poem, a meditation on the Passion of Jesus Christ. John Gwyneth was a sixteenth-century Welsh clergyman, poet, polemicist and composer who lived through the turbulent times of the Protestant Reformation. The work is suitable for concert performance, and also as a church service meditation during Passiontide.
