This work was commissioned by Colchester Choral Society to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the granting of the town’s Charter. The text is from various sources connected with Colchester’s history. First performed by the Colchester Choral Society and Colchester Sinfonia, conductor Ian Ray, with Jacquelyn Fugelle (soprano) and Ian Caddy (baritone), in the Moot Hall, Colchester, on 25 November 1989
