A Song of Heath and History (1996)

This exuberant cantata for choir, solo soprano and strings was commissioned by the Ascension Choir of Blackheath to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary. Dedicated to the memory of the composer’s father Paul, who lived in Blackheath for many years, it is a setting of several poems connected with the history of Blackheath and ending with an evocation of the London Marathon. First performed by the Ascension Choir, Vanine Parker (soprano) with the Blackheath Strings, conducted by Patricia Williams , in the Ascension Church, Blackheath, London, on December 1st 1996
