Recorder Concerto (1995)
various recorders and piano or strings 10-11 mins. Grade 8+
This work uses four different recorders, tenor, treble, descant and sopranino. The lively first movement is followed by a sorrowful and expressive lament, and the finale is a passacaglia which eventually returns to a triumphant restatement of the opening material, during which the soloist plays all four instruments in turn.
First performed by the dedicatee, John Turner, with the Manchester chamber ensemble, director Richard Howarth, at St. Mary’s Church Stockport on May 10th 2008.
