Prelude and Postlude on Veni Creator Spiritus for organ solo

Prelude and Postlude on Veni Creator Spiritus for organ solo (2025)

Based on the traditional plainsong melody Veni Creator Spiritus, these two pieces were composed for the 2025 Pentecost service at Chelmsford Cathedral, where almost all the music was newly written by members of Colchester New Music, an East Anglian composers’ group. Both movements weave the plainsong melody through the texture in different ways: the Prelude is reflective, while the Postlude is a lively, gigue-like movement that builds to a rousing climax.

The pieces were first performed on 8 June 2025 by Sam Bristow (Prelude) and Emma Gibbins (Postlude).
