Pavane and Galliard

Pavane and Galliard (2025)
for chamber organ, clavichord or harpsichord

Inspired by the many Pavanes and Galliards written by English composers around 400 years ago, these two dances were commissioned for a project organised by American organist Carson Cooman, to perform and record Pavanes and Galliards written by a wide range of composers from across the globe.

Written for a chamber organ (single manual, two stops, no pedals) these dances are based on a series of notes derived from the commissioner’s name.

By repeating the tied bass notes in the Pavane as appropriate, they may also be played on the clavichord or harpsichord.
