In such a night

In such a night (2011)
SATB and piano

In Such a Night is a gentle but dramatic setting of a poem by the eighteenth-century poet Anne Finch. A repeated note in the piano, reminiscent of a tolling bell, together with rich and sonorous chords, provides a background for a colourful portrait of the beauty of nature and the calm of night.
(In Such a Night is the first movement of Pictures of Night, a suite in five movements for SATB, optional youth choir, and piano.)
