This song is an original setting of a short section of Tennyson’s In Memoriam (‘Calm and deep peace’) which is later combined with the well-known American Shaker song, ‘Simple Gifts’ – finally leaving ‘Simple Gifts’ on its own, gradually fading away as the piano tolls a bell in the background.
