Attitudes for solo guitar

Attitudes (1991) for solo guitar
8 mins: Grade 8+

The three movements of this colourful piece are based on motivic cells whose transpositions are determined by the tuning of the six strings. The first movement, ‘Dramatic’ is freely recitative-like. By contrast the second movement, ‘Capricious’ is strictly rhythmic though with no regular metre. The third movement, ‘Pensive’ combines elements of a somewhat resigned passacaglia with references back to the earlier movements.
The work was commissioned and first performed by Martin Plackett, at the British Music Information Centre, London, on 31 October 1991
