A Light in the Stable tells the Christmas story through a blend of original settings and well-known carols, and is suitable for concert or church performance. The familiar Gospel words, (which may be spoken or sung, or replaced with other appropriate readings) are interspersed with a range of material, and the audience/congregation may be encouraged to join in for some of the carols. It was written for and first performed by VocalEssence (director Philip Brunelle). Movements which could be performed separately include the following (click on title for details):
As Joseph was a-walking
Glory to God in the Highest
The Little Lord Jesus (Away in a manger)
He is born (Il est né)
A light for today
